Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day implementation of the WIPP Radiological Control Program and Conduct of Operations in all aspects of routine, abnormal, and emergency response work. The successful candidate will provide work assignments for Radiological Control Technicians. The candidate will ensure that radiological support for WIPP operations are conducted in accordance with the approved procedures implementing ALARA principles and compliance with 10 CFR 835; coordinate with other Departments, create Radiological Work Permits, analyze job hazards and prescribe mitigations, and provide input to Procedures and Work Packages; ensure the completion of surveys, posting and controlling radiological hazards, radioactive source control, routine air monitoring; and other duties as assigned by the Radiological Control Manager.

Requirements

  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently, with limited direction and guidance.
  • Minimum Requirements:
    • Associate’s degree with two (2) years of relevant experience, or High School Diploma or Equivalency with four (4) years of relevant experience is required.
    • One (1) year of experience as a Department of Energy (DOE) qualified Radiological Control Technician is mandatory.
    • Must be 18 years of age.
    • Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without SIMCO visa sponsorship now or in the future.
    • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the WIPP Site (even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge).
    • Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns—including sensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries of risk, and other designated countries –are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.

Preferred Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience as a qualified Radiological Control Supervisor.
  • Six (6) years as a qualified Radiological Controls Technician.
  • Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.
