About the role
Field Operations Radiological Control Technicians under general supervision perform monitoring of personnel, work areas, and items leaving radiological areas for the control of exposures from internal and external sources. They also assume responsibility for assigned areas in the absence of the Radiological Control Technician (RCT) Lead, interact with Operations personnel, conduct Field Observations and area contamination and radiation surveys, assist in training less experienced RCTs, participate in work overage planning, and serve as an Emergency Response Organization RADCON team member.
Responsibilities
- Monitor personnel, work areas, and items leaving radiological areas for exposure control.
- Assume responsibility for assigned areas in the absence of the Radiological Control Technician (RCT) Lead.
- Communicate initial pre-shift activities to Operations personnel.
- Select appropriate personnel monitoring devices, anti-contamination clothing, and stay times for radiological workers.

Requirements
- DOE RCT standardized CORE training certification.
- High school diploma or GED plus 2 years of Radiological Protection experience OR 4 years of radiography/radiology experience OR associate's degree in a science I technical field plus 2 years of Radiological Protection/Radiography/Radiology experience OR bachelor's degree in a science I technical field plus 2 years of Radiological Protection/Radiography/Radiology experience OR master's degree in a science I technical field plus 2 years of Radiological Protection/Radiography/Radiology experience OR PHD in a science/ technical field plus 2 years of Radiological Protection/Radiography/Radiology experience.
- Ability to perform mathematical computations and conversions to express sampling & monitoring results in proper units and terms.
- Experience utilizing general databases and Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of basic radiation principles, methods, and mechanics of monitoring and sampling of radiological hazards.

Qualifications
- Requires a DOE RCT standardized CORE training certification.
- Must be able to perform mathematical computations and conversions to express sampling & monitoring results in proper units and terms.
- Must understand the basic nature of the types of radiation.
- Must be knowledgeable and trained in principles, methods, and mechanics of monitoring and sampling of radiological hazards.
- Requires the ability to recognize and characterize problems related to standards and limits, plan investigative action, and define corrective measures.
- Must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., High School diploma; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).
