Radiologic Technologist - Radiology Diagnostic

Education & Experience:

  • Certifications, Licenses Or Registration Required:
    • Mississippi State Department of Health Medical Radiologic Technologist license.
    • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required post-hire within 90 days.
    • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Radiography (R) required post-hire within six (6) months.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, radiation physics and protection, and the principles of imaging.
  • Skill in the use of imaging equipment.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to comply with radiation protection practices.
  • Ability to alleviate patient anxiety.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs radiographic procedures to produce images of internal body organs and bones.
  • Explains procedures to patient, obtains and records medical history relevant to the condition being viewed, selects appropriate equipment settings, and positions the patient in a manner to facilitate optimum imaging results.
  • Views images to determine quality and forwards for review and interpretation; maintains applicable patient documentation.
  • Maintains adequate supplies and a clean work area; reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Assumes responsibility for patient safety; provides physical and psychological comfort to patient.
  • Ensures compliance with workplace safety, environmental, exposure control, and/or infection control practices.

Physical and Environmental Demands:

  • Frequent exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold.
  • Constant exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality.
  • Constant bending, constant lifting and carrying more than 100 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crawling, constant crouching/stooping, frequent kneeling, frequent pushing/pulling, constant reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, frequent twisting, and frequent walking.
