Radiologic Technologist Level III

About the role

This class of positions encompasses responsible clinical and administrative work of varying degrees of difficulty and responsibility involving day-to-day tasks of an operating segment of the Radiology department in the delivery of radiological services. Personnel operate x-ray equipment, develop images, and prepare radiological areas, equipment, supplies, and contrast materials. All personnel perform related work, including supervisory, administrative, and clinical activities.

Responsibilities

• Assignment Level I:
  • Prepares radiological area, equipment, contrast materials, and supplies for patients.
  • Prepares patients for x-rays, explains procedures, transfers patients to the table, positions patients, and assists them at the end of procedures.
  • Follows prescribed techniques to administer general and specific x-rays.
  • Adjusts equipment, determines proper voltage, current, and exposure time, arranges immobilization and support devices, adjusts lead shields, and selects proper imaging techniques.
  • Develops images in accordance with photographic techniques.
  • Observes patients and machines during procedures, reports unusual occurrences, and records patient conditions.
  • Maintains supplies, equipment, and required records.
  • Transports and uses mobile x-ray equipment in patient care areas as required.
  • Follows all radiation, patient, and employee safety protocols; adheres to radiation prevention, containment, and control measures.
  • Effectively uses electronic medical records (EMR) to document patient encounters and access pertinent patient data and imaging results.
• Assignment Level II:
  • Performs procedures on patients whose conditions require specialized expertise.
  • Assists Radiologists, other physicians, and allied health care professionals in diagnostic or treatment procedures.
  • Performs diagnostic testing on equipment and general maintenance.
  • Monitors patient and equipment conditions during procedures and reports changes to appropriate healthcare professionals.
  • Assists and guides radiographers in performing a wide variety of x-ray procedures.
  • Trains radiographers in a wide variety of x-ray procedures.
  • Plans, schedules, and coordinates day-to-day activities to ensure a continuous flow of work.
  • Supervises radiographers and ancillary personnel assigned to the area.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment to ensure operational viability.
• Assignment Level III:
  • Supervises the delivery of radiological services in accordance with established standards and procedures for the service area or unit.
  • Recommends changes and improvements relating to the delivery of radiological services.
  • Participates in the development of training programs for radiographic personnel, ancillary personnel, and allied health care professionals.
  • Demonstrates new or revised techniques, procedures, and equipment.
  • Performs radiologic procedures as required, including special procedures such as diagnostic and interventional radiography (e.g., CT, MRI, and Mammography).
  • Recommends area assignment of personnel to coordinate activities within the department and with other services.
  • Represents the department in interdepartmental operations and meetings.
  • Participates in quality assurance activities, including coordination, control, and maintenance of technical equipment.
  • Coordinates procurement and storage of supplies and makes recommendations regarding supply and equipment needs.
  • Performs research and participates in special projects involving evaluation of equipment and delivery of service.
  • May be assigned duties and responsibilities of the immediate Supervisor in their absence on a temporary basis.

Requirements

Assignment Level III:

• For Supervisory Assignments:
  • A valid license and current registration to practice Diagnostic Radiography as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the NYSDOH.
  • Two years of Radiologic Technologist experience performing duties consistent with Assignment Levels I and II, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
• For Specialized Imaging Assignments:
  • A valid license and current registration to practice Diagnostic Radiography as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the NYSDOH.
  • Possession of a current advanced-level certification for the performance of specialized procedures.

Qualifications

• Preferred advanced certification by the ARRT in Mammography.
• Two or more years of full-time experience as a Mammographer Technologist working independently.
