Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepares radiological area, equipment, contrast materials and supplies, as needed for patients.
- Prepares patient for x-ray, explains procedures, transfers patient to table, positions patient and assists patient at end of procedures.
- Follows prescribed techniques to administer general and specific x-rays.
- Adjusts equipment, determines proper voltage, current and desired exposure time, arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain position of patient, adjusts lead shield, and selects proper imaging techniques.
- Develops images in accordance with photographic techniques.
- Observes patient and machine during procedure and reports unusual occurrences and records patient’s condition.
- Maintains supplies, equipment and required records.
- Transports and uses mobile x-ray equipment in patient care area as required.
- Follows all proper radiation, patient, and employee safety protocols; adheres to all appropriate radiation prevention, containment, and control measures.
- Effectively uses electronic medical records (EMR) to document patient encounters and access pertinent patient data and imaging results.
- Performs procedures on patients whose conditions require specialized expertise.
- Affords assistance to Radiologists, other physicians and allied health care professionals in performing diagnostic or treatment procedures.
- Performs diagnostic testing on equipment and general maintenance.
- Monitors patient and equipment condition during procedure and reports changes to appropriate health care professional.
- Affords assistance and guidance to radiographers in a wide variety of x-ray procedures.
- Plans, schedules and coordinates the day-to-day activities of the area to ensure continuous flow of work.
- Supervises radiographers and ancillary personnel assigned to the area.
- Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment to ensure operational viability of the area.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid license and current registration to practice Diagnostic Radiography as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the NYSDOH.
