About the Role

This position encompasses responsible clinical and administrative work of varying degrees of difficulty within the Radiology department. It involves operating x-ray equipment, developing images, and preparing radiological areas, equipment, supplies, and contrast materials. The role may include supervising assigned radiographic and ancillary personnel.

Responsibilities

• Prepares radiological area, equipment, contrast materials, and supplies for patient procedures.
• Prepares patients for x-rays, explains procedures, transfers patients to the table, positions them, and assists at the end of procedures.
• Follows prescribed techniques to administer general and specific x-rays, adjusting equipment for proper voltage, current, and exposure time.
• Arranges immobilization and support devices, adjusts lead shields, and selects proper imaging techniques.
• Develops images according to photographic techniques and observes patients and equipment during procedures, reporting unusual occurrences.
• Maintains supplies, equipment, and required records; transports and uses mobile x-ray equipment in patient care areas as needed.
• Adheres to radiation, patient, and employee safety protocols, including proper radiation prevention, containment, and control measures.
• Uses electronic medical records (EMR) to document patient encounters and access pertinent patient data and imaging results.
• Performs specialized procedures on patients with conditions requiring advanced expertise.
• Assists Radiologists, physicians, and allied health professionals in diagnostic or treatment procedures.
• Monitors patient and equipment condition during procedures and reports changes to appropriate healthcare professionals.
• Assists and guides radiographers in performing a wide variety of x-ray procedures and provides training as needed.
• Plans, schedules, and coordinates day-to-day activities to ensure a continuous workflow.
• Supervises radiographers and ancillary personnel assigned to the area.
• Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment to ensure operational viability.

Requirements

• Valid license and current registration to practice Diagnostic Radiography as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the NYSDOH.
