About the Role

To produce radiographs to customer and PCC specifications for evaluation of castings.

Responsibilities

• Checks routing or requests to determine x-ray needs on parts.
• Reviews Technique Cards to determine setup requirements, including x-ray techniques, part positions, and Film/IP requirements.
• Sets up additional radiographs of defect areas not covered by Technique Cards.
• Inspects condition and maintains Film/IP and cassettes, following proper handling techniques.
• Sets up castings on tables in x-ray machines, including fixturing, placement of Film/IP’s, and DICOM tag identification and penetrameters on Film/IP; sets exposure parameters.
• Determines priority of radiographs to be taken.
• Develops best practice setup requirements for newly developed techniques when needed.
• Visually inspects castings for dirt, penetrant, grinding debris, etc.
• Operates x-ray machine control panels and equipment to take multiple views of castings, adjusting radiographic variables such as tube height, voltage, and exposure times within customer specifications.
• Monitors, maintains, and generates exposures for System Qualifications on X-ray equipment per customer and PCC specifications.
• Conducts multiple radiographic examinations concurrently and operates all machines.
• Removes Film/IP from casting for image processing while maintaining proper handling techniques.
• Checks samples of radiographs on each casting for inner fearing artifacts, clarity, coverage, pixel value, and sensitivity; makes changes within customer and PCC specifications; records any changes made; reshoots exposure when needed.
• Participates in audits without notice by PCC internal and external auditing groups (e.g., PCC NDTE, NADCAP, ISO 9000).
• Trains, mentors, and assists less skilled Radiographers with setup and operational techniques as needed.
• Completes logs and records, and records any modifications to Technique Card specifications.
• Meets all production and quality standards.
• Adheres to plant and department safety rules and safely operates all equipment and tools.
• Identifies and reports safety problems.
• Performs other tasks as directed and other x-ray department personnel activities.

Requirements

• Radiography skills as demonstrated by the competent performance of all duties OR an equivalent combination of classroom training and work experience.
• High school graduation or GED (necessary for NDT Certification).
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
• Ability to read, follow, and interpret Technique Cards, Quality Control Manuals, and other technical specifications.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.

Training

• Training is provided on the job.
• Radiography Level 1 Courses must be completed (radiation safety, digital method training, etc.).
• Radiographer Level I Certification must be completed for all modalities (Film, CR, DDA).
• Must re-certify - Level 1 every five years.
