About the Role

Interpret film and electronically acquired radiographs of castings to determine if discrepancies meet customer specifications and PCC standards. Determine part acceptability, mark and route parts for necessary repairs, and sign final reports approving castings for customer delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Review specifications and radiographs prior to evaluation.
  • Review Technique Cards and paperwork to ensure alignment with part specifications.
  • Sort radiographs by view for each part and verify image quality for sensitivity and accuracy.
  • Ensure proper image file management protocol is followed.
  • Interpret and evaluate radiographs to determine casting quality, accepting parts or routing them for repair per customer and PCC specifications.
  • Visually evaluate radiographic indications to identify casting or welding discontinuities.
  • Interpret discontinuities to determine their cause and compliance with customer specifications.
  • Identify surface and subsurface discontinuities per customer specifications.
  • Evaluate parts with repeat problem areas; consult with engineering as needed.
  • Mark problem areas on parts requiring repair; request additional radiographs if necessary.
  • Route parts for repair using rework routing cards; recommend or decide on necessary repairs.
  • Sign and stamp reports for part acceptance.
  • Review weld maps to ensure all welds have been radiographed.
  • Perform mathematical calculations from detailed drawings or blueprints to determine acceptability.
  • Handle hazardous waste and comply with all required PPE regulations.
  • Meet all production and quality standards per department guidelines.
  • Accurately record and document work performed.
  • Provide training and work direction to less experienced personnel as assigned.
  • Perform functions of radiographers, darkroom operators, and other department personnel as needed.
  • Safely operate all equipment and tools.
  • Comply with all safety requirements, policies, and procedures to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment.
  • Participate in required training, medical monitoring, safety, and health evaluations and programs.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform required overtime as directed by supervision.

  • Image processing software tools
  • Image archive devices (e.g., CD, DVD, Flash, Server)

Training

  • On-the-job and classroom/topical training provided.
  • Must complete Radiographer - Level 2 course and digital method training modules.
  • Must obtain Radiographer - Level 2 Certification and digital method certification.
  • Recertification required every three years.
  • May require hazardous waste management training.

Qualifications

  • Advanced radiographer skills demonstrated by competent performance of all Radiographer A duties for at least 1 year and completion of Level 1 Certification.
  • OR an equivalent combination of classroom training and closely related radiographic experience.
  • Proven productivity performance over the past year, a satisfactory quality rating from supervisor and lead, and no more than 6 unexcused absences in a 12-month period.
  • Intermediate-level computer system operation skills, including mouse, keyboard, and Windows-based operating systems.
  • Ability to understand and communicate basic computer issues to MIS for repair.
  • Ability to adapt and learn new operational methods as electronic technology evolves.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow specifications in Technique Cards, Quality Control Manuals, and other technical materials.
  • Proficiency in pixel value measurement, region of interest (ROI) image value, statistical process checks, and mid-level mathematical calculations (e.g., statistical mean, averages, percentiles, fractions).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications on drawings and blueprints at a radiographer film interpreter level.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Physical ability to perform essential job functions, including daily equipment set-up and quality checks as required by QCM.
  • Regular and predictable attendance; ability to work overtime as directed.
