Purpose of the Role
The role of the Radio Engineer is to maximize the operational efficiency of the Arrow McLaren team. Seamless voice communication is critical for the performance of our IndyCar Team. The radio engineer is responsible for all RF and VoIP equipment and operation. This includes initial configuration, performance optimization, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Principal Accountabilities
- Configuration and maintenance of Voice-over-IP intercom
- Programming voice radios, specifically in the UHF analog spectrum
- Car radio equipment installation
- Timing stand radio hardware configuration
- Ancillary component maintenance – headsets, cabling, driver helmet microphone, earpieces, etc.
- Antenna performance monitoring and optimization
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Associates degree in an engineering field
- Experience with analog VHF or UHF radios
- Knowledge of and/or experience with VoIP hardware
- Ability to perform hands-on work, including wiring loom installation and cable termination
- Understanding of RF antenna theory
- Ability to troubleshoot and thrive in a high-pressure environment
