Radio Engineer

Duties

• Identify radio programming needs through written request, user contract, related task, or MPSCS initiated change/requirement.
• Contact users to define and verify all requested changes.
• Develop prototype template for field-testing.
• Request radio IDs and Talkgroup IDs for radio templates.
• Build radio templates for MPSCS radios in Metro region.
• Quality check templates for accuracy and remove errors.
• Build archives as required for distribution to field units for radio programming.
• Cook up reprogramming of all appropriate field units.

Responsibilities

• Compile, record, and make database entries into the EAM system and associated databases used by MPSCS.
• Determine billing levels appropriate for each radio template.
• Input equipment and associated information into EAM associated databases.
• Quality check EAM and databases as required for accuracy of radio records.

Requirements

• Program MPSCS radios with appropriate templates and encryption codes.
• Support MPSCS field staff as required for programming of MPSCS radios.
• Support other technical areas of MPSCS as required.
• Investigate issues related to MPSCS radios operations on the system.
• Evaluate new radios for compliance with technical and performance standards as required by the MPSCS.
• Test new programming software and provide field support for new programming software.
• Respond to requests for information regarding radio templates and associated records in EAM and databases.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience as a Radio/Communications Technician.
• Two years of experience with P25 Radio Programming (Motorola & Kenwood).

Skills

• Desired Experience: Military/Public Safety/Radio Communications (not Network), Two-way radio experience, Previous P25 encryption experience/KMF (AES).
