Radiation Therapist PRN

About the Role

The Radiation Therapist is responsible for the administration of ionizing radiation for therapeutic purposes in accordance with the prescription of the Radiation Oncologist. This role includes accountability for the simulation of patients in preparation for radiation therapy, basic patient care, and education.

Responsibilities

• Interprets and implements prescription and treatment plan.
• Delivers and charts all simulation and treatment summaries.
• Performs simulation procedures and prepares immobilization devices.
• Obtains accurate measurements, contours, and other information as needed for dosimetry purposes.
• Assesses treatment machines and performs daily equipment warm-up and quality assurance procedures.
• Assists in clinical training and evaluation of student therapists if applicable.
• Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Provides basic patient care during treatment delivery, assists with patient education, and observes and monitors day-to-day clinical progress of patients for signs of treatment symptoms.
• Provides accurate daily billing information for all treatment-related procedures.
• Responsible for scheduling and treating patients in a timely and professional manner.

Requirements

• Radiology Tech License in the state of practice, if applicable.
• Certification in Radiation Therapy from the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Radiation Therapy from an accredited institution.

Physical Requirements

• Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies.
• Frequent interactions requiring verbal communication, hearing, and understanding spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, especially during emergencies.
• Manual dexterity for manipulating complex and delicate equipment, including frequent computer use and typing.
• Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients, including bending to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment, often up to heavy weights.
• Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining/distributing supplies and equipment, including pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment.
• Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms with equipment and power cords on the floor.
• May be expected to stand in a stationary position for extended periods.
• For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle, which includes sitting, seeing, and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

Pay

The hourly range for this position is $47.38 - $73.11, dependent upon experience.
