Radiation Therapist Per Diem

About the role

The Radiation Therapist delivers high doses of ionizing radiation to specific areas of the patient’s body for the treatment of disease, specifically cancer. This role follows specific treatment plans created by radiation oncologists, outlining the type, dose, and duration of radiation therapy required for each patient. Advanced technology such as linear accelerators and other radiation delivery devices is used to precisely direct radiation beams to the targeted area.

Responsibilities

• Follows treatment plans and parameters to deliver precise radiation doses to targeted areas, minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissues.
• Positions and immobilizes patients on treatment tables, ensuring correct posture for effective radiation targeting.
• Conducts pre-treatment verifications to ensure equipment settings align with the prescribed treatment plan.
• Performs procedure simulations and explains treatment procedures, potential side effects, and what to expect during sessions.
• Offers patients emotional support, addressing concerns and promoting a comfortable treatment experience.
• Implements measures to protect patients, staff, and themselves from unnecessary radiation exposure during treatment sessions.
• Documents treatment details, equipment settings, patient reactions, and any observations.
• Monitors patients for adverse reactions and communicates effectively with the healthcare team about any changes or concerns.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy Technology program.
• Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy.
• BLS (CPR) certification from the American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.

Qualifications

• 2 years of experience as a registered radiation therapist (preferred).
