Responsibilities
- Ensures accurate and precise treatment delivery and date capture.
- Demonstrates sound clinical judgement in daily activities involving treatment delivery and simulation procedures.
- Reviews all set-up instructions, radiation prescriptions, consents, treatment plan, and any other documentation related to treatment delivery.
- Explains treatment process to the patient in a clear and concise manner that promotes understanding.
- Answers any questions that the patient may have which is within the scope of practice of the radiation therapist.
- Visually monitors the patient during treatment.
- Maintains appropriate treatment and simulation records and data.
- Performs required quality assurance procedures and documents accordingly.
- Maintains licensure, registration, and certifications as required.
- Works within the Practice Standards as defined by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists.
- Completes all mandatory orientation, training, and continued education as required.
- Always demonstrates professional behaviors.
- Utilizes resources, equipment, and supplies efficiently.
- Comply with all NYPC policies related to Privacy Rules established under the Health Information Privacy and Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
Qualifications
- Required: Must be a graduate of a JCERT accredited program in radiation therapy or a suitable equivalent.
- PREFERRED: Baccalaureate Degree in Radiation Therapy or a related health science field.
- Licensed by the New York State Department of Health as a radiologic technologist or eligible.
- Certified and registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy or ARRT Board exam eligible.
Skills
Proficiency in radiation therapy techniques, excellent communication skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving abilities are essential.
