General Summary

Under the direction of the Radiation Oncologist, the Radiation Therapist prepares, communicates to the patient, and administers radiation treatments to patients. During treatments, the incumbent will monitor the patient's responses, include reactions, and document results for Oncologist review.

Essential Functions

  • Accurately and efficiently reviews patient list daily, ensuring supplies are sufficiently stocked and available for use.
  • Maintains records of daily treatments and documents in ARIA.
  • Communicates with Oncologist and other medical professionals prior to, during, and after treatment to ensure patient treatment goals are met.
  • Communicates to Physician, Chief Radiation Therapist, or Physicist any abnormal or erratic operations of equipment.
  • Communicates with patient about plans of treatment, and answers basic questions. For advanced questions, refers to physician or Radiation Supervisor.
  • Ensures documentation, consent/release, and other required forms are on file and valid prior to treatment.
  • Positions patients for treatment according to physician order.
  • Ensures proper radiation safety protocols are met.
  • Verifies that proper immobilization devices are stocked, utilized, disposed of, or sterilized after each use.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.

Qualifications

  • Must be licensed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or be registry eligible, as a Radiation Therapist.
  • Must show the ability to work with ARIA.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of human anatomy and physiology; radiation physics.
  • Must be able to assess and evaluate physical and psychological patient status, including changes in condition, and formulate appropriate actions and communicate with appropriate personnel if there are any changes in patient condition.
  • Must show an ability to interpret medical terminology and communicate with patients, or caregivers, proper course of treatment.
  • Must show the ability to efficiently operate equipment and report any malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Must show the ability to have excellent interpersonal skills and communication to interact with all walks of life, internal and external to UCA, from all educational or cultural backgrounds.
  • Must show the ability to work independently or within a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must show the ability to maintain confidentiality, including strict adherence to HIPAA and UCA Guidelines.

Licensure, Certification, Registration Requirements

  • Must be licensed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or be registry eligible, as a Radiation Therapist.
  • Must be CPR Certified.

Supervisory Requirements

This position will not supervise any other staff members.
