Job Description
The Radiation Therapist coordinates, plans, and administers high quality and comprehensive age/disease appropriate radiotherapy to oncology patients of all age groups by utilizing equipment, computers, and established techniques to ensure a positive patient experience. Demonstrating radiation safety standards with patient and staff members is essential.
- Demonstrate key responsibilities such as preparing or constructing equipment, positioning patients for simulation and treatment, administering prescribed doses of radiation, documenting simulations and treatments, assisting with documentation, checking equipment, reporting machine and equipment problems, observing and reassuring patients, educating and preparing patients, coordinating patient schedules, interacting with internal and external customers, training or supervising students, performing documented chart reviews, and reporting issues to supervisors.
- Follow principles of radiation protection for patient, self, and others- ALARA, and respond to medical emergencies by calling 911 and notifying appropriate staff.
- Develop and cross-train on equipment and technology as needed, maintain a productive relationship with the physics and dosimetry departments, follow established practice patterns, and comply with all licensure and certification requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduate of an approved School for Radiation Therapy
- ARRT Registered Technologist (T)
- State licensed (mandatory where required)
- Must be in good standing with all CE and license requirements
- CPR certified
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Computer literate, to include experience with the following: Record & Verify Applications, Treatment Delivery Applications, Electronic Medical Record, OWANDT, MS Office Suite
