Radiation Therapist

Job Summary

Greets patients using AIDET, verifies their identification, reviews charts for proper radiation treatment parameters and physician prescriptions. Informs patients and families about the treatment process and answers questions. Prepares patients for treatment, positions equipment according to plans, takes portal films or IGRT scans to ensure treatment protocols are accurately set up and followed. Verifies proper dosage of ionizing radiation for patients as prescribed by physicians. Monitors patients during the treatment process by checking video monitors and intercoms and informs physicians if patients experience distress or side effects related to the treatment process. Records each patient’s treatment in the EMR and makes proper notes for accurate treatment and setup.

• Prepares patients for treatment, positions equipment according to plans, takes portal films or IGRT scans to ensure treatment protocols are accurately set up and followed.
• Verifies proper dosage of ionizing radiation for patients as prescribed by physicians.
• Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate journals, books, and other literature and attending related seminars, conferences, and education opportunities.

Requirements

• Satisfactory completion of a JRCERT accredited Radiation Therapy Program.
• ARRT (T) board certification completed within six months of hire.
• BLS from the American Heart Association required upon hire.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of linear accelerators and record and verify systems.
• Ability to operate radiation therapy equipment.
• Ability to manage patients.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
