About the role

The Radiation Protection Technician supports radiological protection activities across the station and provides an opportunity to participate in the historic restart of the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant.

Responsibilities

  • Provide contamination and dose control.
  • Track radiation exposure for personnel and work tasks.
  • Determine methods to reduce radiation exposure.
  • Provide radiation protection coverage for work tasks.
  • Establish worker stay times.
  • Establish radiological work requirements.
  • Respond to off-normal conditions.
  • Maintain radiation exposures ALARA.
  • Maintain radiation exposures within regulatory and administrative requirements and support with the RWP program.
  • Radiologically post the power plant.
  • Understand adverse radiological conditions on equipment and personnel performance.
  • Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization.
  • Maintain housekeeping through the Aux Building.
  • Trash and Laundry changes through the RCA’s.
  • Keep up with inventories and restocking of all RP-related materials.
  • Provide support for radiological shipping.
  • Potentially support a rotational shift.
  • Additional support activities may include source leak testing, calibration and source checks of instrumentation, respiratory equipment inspections or maintenance, and dosimetry activities.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in a related technical degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • RP Tech/Health Physicist III: 4 years commercial nuclear experience.
  • RP Tech/Health Physicist II: 2 years commercial nuclear experience.
  • Technical understanding of nuclear generation principles and operations.
  • Proficiency with current computer business applications.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet or exceed ANSI/ANS 3.1-1978, ANSI Section 4.5.2 - Technicians. Technicians shall have 3 years of working experience in their specialty, of which 1 year should be related technical training. They should possess a high degree of manual dexterity and ability and should be capable of learning and applying basic skills.
