About the role

The Radiation Protection Specialist will be accountable for communicating with customers to determine the best plans for exposure reduction. They will independently assess and make field technical decisions regarding job performance, conditions, and communication with all levels of management. They will utilize their knowledge to strategically assess corrective actions to enhance exposure reduction, contamination reduction, and work efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and implementing ALARA planning, estimating, work group involvement, and procedure implementation in accordance with Entergy procedural guidance for exposure reduction.
  • Performance and assessments, corrective actions, benchmarking, and job evaluations with regards to ALARA processes and practices.
  • Implementing fleet and industry best practices.
  • Performing independent roles such as outage planning, or other duties integral to the Radiation Protection ALARA program.
  • Communicating with customers to determine best plans for exposure reduction.
  • Independently assessing and making field technical decisions with regards to job performance, assessment of conditions, and communication with all levels of management.
  • Utilizing knowledge to strategically assess corrective actions to improve exposure reduction, contamination reduction, and work efficiency.
  • Coaching and performing critical observations.
  • Creating, tracking, closing, and filing RWP's, ALARA Plans, TEDE-ALARA Evaluations, Outage Milestones.
  • Conducting validation of dose estimates for work orders/emergent work.
  • Shielding preparation, TSR development and approval.
  • Monitoring and documenting accumulated dose for station/work groups.
  • Participation in ALARA Managers Committee - Preparation, Attendance, and Interaction.
  • Attending meetings and providing input on Radiological Risk, Dose Savings Ideas, RP Resource needs.
  • Establishing radiological work requirements.
  • Organizing, assembling, and maintaining job history files.
  • Representing the Radiation Protection Department in the online and outage work planning processes.
  • Performing station work schedule reviews.
  • Reviewing station temporary alterations, modifications, or engineering changes for ALARA dose impacts and radiological risk.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education: B.S. Degree in Chemistry or related technical degree may be credited for up to 1 year of experience, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum Experience: ALARA Spec, III (Nuc): 5+ years as an ANSI qualified RP Technician; ALARA Spec, Sr (Nuc): 8+ years as an ANSI qualified RP Technician.
  • Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: ANSI qualified 3.1 Sr RP (5+years) with High Radiological Risk job coverage experience, previous ALARA experience, experience in Nuclear Power Plant Operations.
