Radiation Oncology Therapist

Role Overview

This position involves applying ionizing radiation to patients under minimal supervision, following radiation oncologist prescriptions and standards of practice. The role requires delivering accurate treatments, preparing equipment, and monitoring patients during therapy.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring correct treatment delivery by checking prescriptions, consent, and patient identification.
  • Explaining procedures, alleviating patient fears, and monitoring for reactions.
  • Preparing treatment rooms and equipment, assisting with simulations, and performing dosimetry procedures.
  • Monitoring equipment functionality, maintaining detailed treatment records, and documenting changes.
  • Performing minor clerical tasks, maintaining department cleanliness, and organizing treatment materials.
  • Ensuring patient safety during transfers and treatments, and responding to emergencies promptly.
  • Monitoring accessory equipment and assisting with diagnostic procedures as needed.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Associate's degree in Radiologic Science, certification from AART, and Massachusetts radiation license.
  • At least 1 year of radiation therapy experience; 3 years preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, excellent communication, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
  • Good judgment, adaptability, teamwork, and technical proficiency with equipment and safety protocols.

Physical & Work Environment

The role involves frequent standing, lifting up to 35 lbs, manual dexterity, and exposure to radiation. It requires close contact with patients, physicians, and staff, ensuring safety and quality care.
