Radiation Oncologist

About the role

The UTRGV SOM is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible physician in Radiation Oncology to provide both clinical and academic radiation services. UT Health Rio Grande Valley is the clinical practice of the UTRGV School of Medicine, offering high-quality, patient-centered care through a dedicated team of physicians and health professionals.

Responsibilities

Clinical responsibilities will include outpatient radiation services and may include in-patient consultation. Academic responsibilities may include teaching residents/medical students in the outpatient clinical setting and in the classroom.

The successful candidate will develop a robust clinical/translational research program that advances the therapeutic paradigm and participate in scholarly activity, faculty development, patient safety and quality improvement initiatives, and other administrative and program committees.

Daily responsibilities include conducting consultations and follow-up visits, reviewing imaging and diagnostic results, developing precise treatment plans, supervising the delivery of radiation therapy, and monitoring patients for treatment response and side effects.

The Radiation Oncologist will participate in tumor boards, maintain accurate and compliant documentation, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives and academic or research activities aligned with UT Health RGV’s mission.

Qualifications

• Strong clinical expertise in Medicine with a focus on oncology and comprehensive patient care.
• Proficiency in Cancer Treatment planning and management, including multidisciplinary care coordination.
• In-depth knowledge of Radiation and Radiation Therapy principles, safety standards, and protocols.
• Experience with advanced techniques such as Stereotactic Radiosurgery and other precision radiation modalities.
• Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution and completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in Radiation Oncology.
• Board certification or eligibility in Radiation Oncology and eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Texas.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an academic medical center, including participation in teaching and research.
• Excellent communication skills, commitment to equitable and inclusive patient care, and dedication to ongoing professional development.
