Position Summary
A radiation oncologist is a physician with advanced training, experience, and education providing skills necessary to examine, diagnose, and manage cancerous tumors.
Core Job Functions
- Supervises all clinical/medical services rendered.
- Studies radiographic images and medical reports, establishes a plan of care for patients, and monitors patients through visits.
- Plans tumor localization and prescribes appropriate treatments based on clinical evidence.
- Maintains liaison with other disciplines such as social services, nutritional support, speech therapy, physical therapy, pastoral care, and pain management.
- Attends and participates in cancer committee conferences, presents an oncology annual report with the executive oncology director.
- Assumes weekly on-call status on a rotation basis.
- Consults with other physicians for the continuum of care.
- Networks with community physicians to increase referrals.
- Affirms fiscal compliance related to patient billing and coding.
- Correctly bills patients for services and accurately documents to support charges.
- Makes recommendations on capital purchases, facility design, and operational issues.
- Aids in the selection of new equipment and services.
