About the role

Performs routine diagnostic radiology services as required in examinations, care and treatment of satellite clinic patients. Assists radiologist and physicians when necessary. Obtains blood specimens from satellite clinic patients; prepares specimens properly to enable medical technologists to conduct analysis which aid physicians in diagnosis and treatment of infections or diseases. Performs EKGs for pre-op. Performs general office duties including but not limited to scheduling, obtaining guarantor information; answers telephones, prepares lab fee charges; prepares patient folders and files medical records. Obtains required signatures. Informs patient of their rights. Checks Clear Quote and collects co-pays.

Responsibilities

  • Promptly acknowledges and greets patient/legal representative.
  • Determines appropriate service.
  • Interviews patient/legal representative to obtain complete accurate information, in a timely courteous manner.
  • Explains all forms requiring signatures, informs patient of their rights and provides hospital information/brochures.
  • Checks clear quote and informs patients.
  • Enters appropriate ancillary testing.
  • Maintains current knowledge of State, Federal and individual insurance procedures related to the hospital's registration functions.
  • Obtains insurance verification, checks for eligibility and procedural authorization as needed.
  • Responsible for the collection of money according to established guidelines and transporting specimens outside of courier hours.
  • Prepares patient for radiographic examinations; explains procedures prior to testing and answers patient questions relating to any radiologic exam.
  • Prepares specimens and stat blood work for analysis; collects blood in test tubes and labels with appropriate information.
  • Collects additional blood specimens from patients, as required, to obtain suitable specimens for analysis by medical technologists.
  • Maintains laboratory work area in clean and orderly condition; disposes of contaminated supplies and materials to prevent spread of infection or disease to patients, visitors and personnel.
  • Performs EKGs.
  • Obtains guarantor information from patients and prepares patient charges regarding laboratory and/or radiologic tests; inputs fee charge forms in information system including, patient's name, room number, date, type of test performed and amount charged for laboratory/X-Ray procedures.
  • Prepares patient demographics in hospital information system; includes data such as patient's name, attending physician, current date, treatment and/or diagnosis of test results; files and cross-indexes patient's records.
  • Positions patients properly according to type of radiologic examinations; selects proper equipment and supplies for patients which provides radiation protection during examinations.
  • Develops radiologic films using automatic processing procedures, or using Digital CR.
  • Reports any equipment that is not in proper working condition to the supervisor so they can call for service.
  • Performs sterile and isolation techniques; follows all OSHA standards.
  • Maintains continuing education on procedures and techniques in order to perform routine diagnostic examinations of high quality.
  • Maintains radiology work area in a clean and orderly condition to prevent spread of infection or disease to patients, visitors and personnel.
  • Performs routine quality assurance on equipment, maintains record keeping and reports quality concerns.

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: Must possess Radiological Technologist as required by state board where services will be provided: WV: Radiologic Technologist License through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners OH: Radiologic Technologist License through the Ohio Department of Health. Registered in Radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). CPR certification.
  • EXPERIENCE: Nine (9 ) months radiology technologist experience. Three (3) months phlebotomy experience.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Phlebotomy certification.
  • EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of imaging experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to interact positively with patients, families, and members of the Health Care Team.
  • Ability to prioritize and deal with a variety of situations simultaneously.
  • Ability to improvise with altered positioning techniques, manipulation of the equipment, and accessory devices when routine positioning is compromised due to patient’s condition, age, or ability.

Physical Requirements

  • Differentiate various shades of gray as depicted on a black and white television monitor or photograph.
  • Stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Wear a lead apron weighing approximately 8 to 15 pounds for extended periods of time.
  • Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds of weight.
  • Carry items of up to 20 pounds.

Working Environment

  • Exposure to minimal radiation within the national standards of occupational guidelines. Monitored by Radiation Safety and use of dosimeter.
  • Exposure to airborne particles and bodily fluids.
  • Operation of imaging equipment with automated moving parts.
