R&D Specialist II

Your Tasks and Responsibilities

• Identify and validate molecular targets that play a key role in plant pathology, yield, and nutrition.
• Analyze and identify the biological, chemical, and genetic properties of plants.
• Study molecular biology, cell biology, plant genetics, plant physiology, biochemistry, and/or microbiology as input to the discovery of new plant cultivars or agricultural methods.
• Conduct research on insect neurochemistry and pheromones for pest control.

Primary Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with other greenhouse and lab team members to deliver daily and weekly production targets under tight deadlines.
• Identify opportunities for system or process improvements, operate automation, and perform experiments.
• Have primary or shared responsibility for a specialized laboratory and controlled environment technology.
• Prepare reports of an analytical and interpretative nature.
• Train and may supervise others in specialized areas.
• Interact with others within specialized areas.
• Organize and put together reports.
• Problem solve using original thinking and deductive reasoning of diverse procedures within specialized laboratory technology.
• Cultivate complex activities that require the application of specialized scientific techniques.
• Take initiative to keep current with developments in specialized area.
• Work closely with work teams and support functional spaces within the Plant Biology Hub.
• Interact with all collaborating functional spaces within Plant Biotechnology as well as potential spaces within Crop Protection, Regulatory Science, and Breeding.
• Potentially collaborate with external partners on system improvements.

Who You Are

• Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
• High School Diploma;
• Strong horticultural production knowledge;
• Ability to independently design experiments and analyze data;
• Greenhouse/growth chamber experience;
• Ability to identify, communicate, track, and troubleshoot plant health variables;
• Proficiency with data analysis and visualization software.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree with minimum years of relevant experience;
• OR Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience;
• OR High School Diploma with 10 years of relevant experience.

This posting will be available for application until at least July 16, 2026. Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $60,000.00 to $90,000.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).
