R&D Machining Engineer
About the role
Collaborates and works with Engineers and Technicians in the R&D group to manufacture new products from advanced ceramic and metal matrix composite materials. Activities include hands-on prototyping, CNC programming, machining of prototypes (milling, grinding, EDM, lapping, other), fabrication of fixtures, design, process optimization (cycle time, quality, yield), and data collection. All results will be documented (data summaries, Work Instructions, reports). Successful new products will be transferred to manufacturing (specifying equipment, training personnel, monitoring results).
Responsibilities
- Machining (milling, grinding, EDM, lapping, other) of prototypes manufactured from advanced composite materials
- Perform equipment programming in the assigned area of responsibility (MasterCAM, PC-DIMS, Calyspo, MX, others)
- Generate PC-based outputs on standard platforms (Agile, Oracle, Cumulus, Creo, Solidworks, others)
- Detailed process and product tracking
- Continuous improvement via participation in Lean/Kaizen, ISO, 8D and other related activities
- Transfer successful products to Manufacturing, including writing documentation, specifying equipment, conducting training, and monitoring results
- Ensure adherence to site EHS procedures, use proper PPE, participate in safety training, and support risk assessments and compliance monitoring
- Execute and maintain ISO 9000, 9001, 14001 and other applicable quality and environmental standards as required

Requirements
BS in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent engineering/machining education) with 2+ years' experience; equivalent work and/or education/work experience considered.
Skills
- Broad experience with machining methods, including milling, grinding, turning, EDM, and other
- Working knowledge of machining advanced materials (ceramics, composites, other)
- Experience with GD&T and inspection equipment, hand tools, visual tools, etc.
- Knowledge of design software, e.g., CAD (ProE/Creo, SolidWorks, other), CAM (MasterCam, SurfCam, GibbsCam, other), and CMM (PC-DIMS, Calyspo)
Schedule
Work schedule is 5 days, 40 hours per week, first shift.
