R&D Machinist
Great Plains Manufacturing, headquartered in Salina, KS, is a proud subsidiary of Kubota with more than 50 years as a Kansas leader in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of agricultural implements, including seeding, tillage, and landscaping equipment. Our new Construction Equipment Division adds Kubota-branded skid steers, compact track loaders, and CE attachments, supported by Kubota Construction R&D Engineering in Salina.
About the role
We are seeking an R&D Machinist to join our Fixture Design R&D team in Assaria, KS. This position supports product development by machining prototype and fixture parts, working closely with engineers, designers, and technicians to facilitate the design process and rework parts as necessary.
Schedule
Monday through Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., plus occasional overtime as required.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate precision cutting machines such as manual lathes, milling machines, drills, boring mills, CNC mills, and CNC lathes.
- Read, interpret, and work from engineering prints.
- Collaborate with engineers and designers to facilitate the design process.
- Work with fixture builders and testing technicians to rework parts as needed.
- Maintain a professional working relationship within the department.
- Perform and organize tasks to ensure a safe working environment.
- Follow all Great Plains and OSHA safety regulations and wear prescribed safety and protective equipment.
- Supply necessary hand tools, including precision measuring tools.
- Other duties as assigned that may require additional qualifications, physical demands, or work environment adjustments.
Requirements
- Machining experience required, including CNC mills and lathes.
- Some manual mill and lathe experience preferred.
- Ability to prioritize workload and workflow.
- Proven aptitude for a high level of craftsmanship and maintaining close tolerances when required.
- Forklift license or ability to obtain one.
- Ability to operate and interpret precision measuring instruments.
- Must be a safety-oriented team player.
