Responsibilities
- Analyze and establish product specifications, performance requirements, and data to determine feasibility of proposals.
- Develop functional designs in conjunction with a support team of engineers to meet performance, dimensional, and other requirements for new or existing products; create drawings and supporting information to convey design intent to customers.
- Oversee creation of Bills of Material (BOM) for prototypes, base model products, and custom units; prepare or direct preparation of layout and detailed drawings; provide data entry information to define completed products in top-level BOMs.
- Apply Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and strength of materials principles at component and product levels to ensure structural integrity; use mechanical engineering analysis techniques to determine causes of field failures and perform weight and load distribution calculations.
- Plan and develop experimental test programs, including test requests, procedures, and fixture development; oversee test execution, analyze data, and prepare reports to verify design compliance with functional and performance specifications; evaluate results to resolve issues and implement design modifications.
- Provide manufacturing support by directing or coordinating prototype builds; collaborate with Manufacturing and Manufacturing Engineering to establish or improve processes and procedures; assist in preventing or eliminating defects.
- Generate materials lists for estimating purposes and provide technical information to sales and marketing for training the sales force.
- Interact with vendors to evaluate and select components; inspect supplied components for compliance with requirements.
- Engage with customers of the product.
- Contribute to team efforts to produce a quality product; maintain regular and timely attendance; comply with company policies and procedures; work and communicate effectively in a team environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Company.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar engineering field.
Experience: 1-5 years.
Skills
- Experience designing welded, bolted, riveted, and bonded fabricated assemblies.
- Knowledge of material science for steel, aluminum, and composites; knowledge of thermal insulating structures is a plus.
- Training in finite element analysis (FEA).
- Strong verbal and communication skills.
