Role Overview

This role is pivotal in enabling IBM to scale its quantum processors while ensuring signal integrity, shielding, and reliability across the system. The successful candidate will work closely with physicists, engineers, and technicians to address challenges associated with scaling superconducting quantum processors to fault-tolerant levels.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement solutions for scaling quantum processors
  • Communicate effectively with physicists, engineers, and technicians to understand and resolve technical issues
  • Contribute to the advancement of quantum technology through research and development
  • Write journal articles, theses, and give live presentations to share findings and insights
  • Use simulation tools like HFSS to model and optimize microwave signal delivery systems
  • Design and assemble complex mechanical electrical assemblies
  • Work with qubits and conduct measurements such as T1, T2, and crosstalk
  • Manage and mitigate thermal mismatches in multi-component assemblies

Requirements

  • Masters in physics, electrical engineering or related field
  • 2 years of relevant working experience with cryogenic microwave signal delivery or equivalent
  • Experience with dilution fridges or other 4K systems capable of reaching temperatures needed for superconducting materials
  • Demonstrated communication ability through writing journal articles, theses, and giving live presentations
  • Experience with mechanical electrical assemblies
  • PhD in physics, electrical engineering or related field preferred
  • 4 years of experience in a superconducting electronics laboratory
  • Experience with qubits and conducting measurements such as T1, T2, and crosstalk
  • Experience with mechanical design and managing CTE mismatch in complex assemblies
