Quality/Test Engineer 2

Location: Lafayette, IN • Work arrangement: onsite • Pay rate: $34–37/hr

About the role

Caterpillar is seeking an experienced CMM Programmer to support its Metrology and Quality team. This role develops, edits, debugs, and maintains CMM inspection programs for machined engine components while supporting production, receiving inspection, APQP/PPAP activities, and quality improvement initiatives. A strong understanding of dimensional measurement, GD&T, and manufacturing processes is required.

Responsibilities

• Develop, validate, and maintain PC-DMIS CMM programs.
• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T requirements.
• Perform data analysis and support quality improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, operations, and quality teams to resolve technical issues.
• Support inspection activities for engine components and other machined parts.
• Drive process improvements and efficiency gains within the manufacturing environment.

Requirements

• Advanced PC-DMIS programming experience.
• Formal Hexagon training with Level 3 proficiency.
• Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint interpretation.
• Experience with dimensional inspection and data analysis.
• Bachelor’s degree with relevant experience or Associate’s degree with equivalent experience.
• Strong communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
