Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory preparations and evaluations on product, including grinding, polishing, etching, and microstructure analysis using microscopes.
- Conduct metallurgical lab duties such as grain size evaluation, intergranular corrosion (IGC) testing, and other material analyses.
- Perform receiving inspection functions across multiple product lines and materials.
- Support in-process and final inspection activities as required.
- Assist with training and qualification of inspectors to ensure compliance with internal and customer standards.
- Prepare and support documentation for First Article Inspections (FAI), statistical data packages, FMEA, PPAP, and other customer-required quality documents.
- Review and approve certifications to ensure compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and complete all required paperwork and electronic entries.
- Update and maintain Quality Management System (QMS) documentation in accordance with AS9100 and customer requirements.
- Cook up and support documentation for job setups.
- Coordinate outside testing services including vendor communication, purchase order generation, and shipment/receipt of materials.
- Work with external laboratories and suppliers to ensure timely and accurate completion of testing requirements.
- Perform calibration of measuring gages and equipment and maintain calibration records.
- Ensure all equipment meets accuracy and traceability requirements (NIST, ISO/IEC 17025 where applicable).
- Review shop floor orders for packaging requirements and coordinate appropriate packaging materials.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aligned with company goals for safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
- Meet corporate objectives related to safety performance, on-time delivery, and reduction of customer returns.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all written and verbal instructions and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
- Communicate concerns, nonconformances, or risks promptly to leadership.
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements, including PPE usage.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support business needs.
Requirements
- Associate degree in Quality Technology, Manufacturing, or related field OR high school diploma with relevant aerospace or manufacturing experience.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, specifications, and SPC data.
- Familiarity with inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, and gages.
- Basic understanding of metallurgical processes and lab techniques preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to work across departments and with external vendors.
- Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- ASQ certifications (e.g., CQI, CQT) preferred.
- Aerospace manufacturing experience, particularly with turbine engine components.
- Experience working within AS9100 and NADCAP environments.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., Visual ERP) and quality systems (e.g., UniPoint).
