About the role

We are a key global provider of sustainable packaging solutions, on a mission to make all packaging recyclable, reusable, or compostable. As a member of the Site Leadership Team (SLT), you will support and participate in all Safety programs and initiatives, manage and continuously improve quality systems, forest sustainability, and food safety programs. You will ensure the highest results in all government, customer, third-party, and internal audits and inspections, and maintain material and finished goods specifications. This role involves resolving customer complaints, supporting the Continuous Improvement (CI) program, and fostering a culture of quality awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement cost-effective inspection procedures and techniques consistent with company and customer requirements.
  • Implement, maintain, and continuously review/improve quality-awareness programs and data collection systems.
  • Communicate with customer contacts concerning any issues regularly; visit customers to troubleshoot problems and support new product start-ups.
  • Assist customers with sampling of new materials or packaging.
  • Prepare and lead the plant through SQF systems audits and lead internal HACCP and Internal Audit Teams.
  • Oversee food packaging safety for the location and assigned customers.
  • Coordinate and execute customer audits/certification (SQF, IMS, FSC, etc.).
  • Train manufacturing personnel on quality requirements and test procedures.
  • Team with Engineering and Operations Managers and the CI Leader for new product onboarding and machinery start-up to ensure all food safety requirements are met.
  • Manage the material qualification (MQ) program and maintain the Quality Hold Area, issuing disposition on materials with a full understanding of ERP system workflows.
  • Manage the supplier certification program and monitor incoming materials.
  • Supervise 1 hourly Quality Technician.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate well with others orally and in writing.
  • Computer literate: MS Office and MRP/ERP experience required.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Three to five years of supervisory experience in a quality department within a manufacturing environment.
  • Comfortable interacting with all levels of management, from corporate to plant labor.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills for customer interactions.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a technical field.
  • SQF Practitioner and HACCP training preferred; will support training completion within 6 months of hire.
  • Direct or indirect paperboard food packaging experience preferred.

Environment

  • Works in a professional office environment with normal office noise levels 50% to 75% of the time.
  • Works on the manufacturing floor 25% to 50% of the time, depending on daily circumstances.
  • While on the manufacturing floor, all Safety/GMP/PPE requirements must be followed, including safety glasses, hair covering, hearing protection, and safety shoes.
  • All Federal, LA County Health Department, and OSHA requirements around COVID-19 are strictly enforced.
