Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise, train, mentor, and develop Quality Technicians to ensure consistent application of inspection methods, quality standards, and QMS procedures.
- Assign daily inspection tasks and monitor team performance to ensure timely and accurate completion of incoming, in-process, and final inspections.
- Evaluate training, certify operators and inspectors for critical processes, and manage the training matrix for the quality department.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Quality Control & Inspection Oversight
- Review and validate inspection results, ensuring documentation accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal procedures and customer requirements.
- Oversee identification, documentation, and segregation of nonconforming material; ensure proper tagging, disposition, and traceability.
- Submit 8D to vendors and provide follow up to their responses.
- Maintain authority to stop production or prevent material flow when quality issues present risk.
- Ensure inspection tools, gauges, and measurement equipment remain within calibration and are used properly.
- Process, Product, and System Compliance
- Lead or support audits of manufacturing processes, ensuring adherence to quality standards, work instructions, and regulatory requirements.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities using structured problem-solving tools such as 8D, 5-Why, and fishbone diagrams.
- Analyze quality data and trends, prepare reports, and present findings with recommendations for improvement.
- Promote and enforce compliance with the Quality Management System (ISO or equivalent), including documentation control and audit readiness.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Operations, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to identify, escalate, and resolve quality issues affecting production or suppliers.
- Communicate quality concerns, inspection results, and process changes clearly and timely to all relevant stakeholders.
- Participate in problem-solving meetings, improvement events, and production reviews as the Quality representative.
- Continuous Improvement
- Lead or participate in initiatives focused on reducing defects, improving inspection processes, increasing standardization, and enhancing product reliability.
- Recommend improvements in procedures, tools, and documentation based on data insights and technician feedback.
- Ensure 5S standards and safe working conditions within the Quality area.
Required Education & Qualifications
- Associate degree preferred; bachelor’s degree a plus.
- 3 to 5+ years’ experience in manufacturing or quality; supervisory experience preferred.
- Proficient in blueprint reading, measurement techniques, and inspection standards.
- Proven experience in Quality, Quality Assurance, or related manufacturing environment.
- Prior experience in a leadership, supervisory, or lead-technician role strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of quality methodologies (8D, root cause analysis, corrective actions, problem-solving tools).
- Able to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and measurement requirements.
- Proficiency in computer systems such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SAP, or other ERP/QMS platforms.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead, influence, and develop team members.
- Demonstrated ability to prevent the release or shipment of nonconforming product.
- Strong decision-making skills, organization, and attention to detail.
- Auditing experience (ISO or internal) preferred.
