About the Role
The Risk Analyst is responsible for promoting an environment of risk awareness and risk reduction. This role directs facility risk awareness and risk reduction programs, including loss prevention and loss control measures, analysis of trending concerns, and risk reduction education. The Risk Analyst assists in the development and education of facility safety and risk management policies and procedures, reviews and investigates risk incidents, and creates reports and timelines as assigned. The role actively facilitates and leads related incident follow-up meetings, including Root Cause Analyses and Performance Improvement meetings.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement programs and strategies to minimize, transfer, or eliminate risk exposures, including financial impact when risks occur.
- Review medical records and identify pertinent issues with attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in oral and written communication.
- Review all events entered into the online incident reporting system and collaborate with the Risk Manager and other leaders in investigating these reports, including planning and participating in Performance Improvement and Root Cause Analyses.
- Develop, present, and evaluate educational programs relating to risk management theory, current issues, and incident prevention.
- Analyze data from the incident reporting system to identify trends and collaborate with unit leadership to address identified trends.
- Participate in the investigation of sentinel events and the root cause analysis process.
- Serve as a resource to physicians, administrators, nursing personnel, and other hospital and physician practice personnel.
- Participate in developing and interpreting appropriate risk management policies, procedures, and techniques.
- Attend educational programs and training sessions related to essential job functions.
- Support and encourage error reporting throughout the organization and support the development of a Just Culture.
- Coordinate outside agency survey visits.
- Attend and participate in departmental meetings as assigned.
- Assist in the completion of risk investigations, FMEA, and Root Cause Analysis as assigned.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
- Comply with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to always maintain confidentiality.
- Participate in various special projects related to protecting the Hospital against liability claims.
- Serve as an active member of the Patient Safety Committee and other committees as assigned by the Risk Manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (required).
- 2 years of patient care experience in a hospital setting (required).
- 1 or more years in behavioral health (preferred).
- CPHRM certification preferred.
- Preferred Healthcare Provider/Basic Life Support and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training.
