About the role
Covia is seeking a Quality/Production Supervisor to lead operations at its Portage, WI location. Reporting to the Operations Manager and Plant Manager, this position oversees mineral processing activities and ensures adherence to safety, quality, and environmental regulations.
Responsibilities
- Provide strong leadership in safety program policies and initiatives.
- Ensure all safety and health matters comply with regulatory agency requirements and Covia policies.
- Direct employees in various mineral processing activities such as dredging, washing, drying, screening, loading, product shipment, and inventory management.
- Schedule regular production shifts and overtime as needed, and coordinate activities to achieve plant KPIs and quality control parameters.
- Maintain labor relations, provide feedback, and handle disciplinary actions.
- Review and recommend improvements in employee training and development.
- Initiate corrective actions to maintain and improve plant efficiency.
- Report issues affecting plant operations to the Operations Manager.
- Collect and submit necessary labor and operating data for reports.
- Utilize ERP systems for purchase requisitions, maintenance work orders, and production records.
- Develop and implement capital improvement projects and engineering changes.
- Maintain plant-specific quality control policies and procedures.
- Direct the Quality Control Program and ensure compliance with plant and corporate quality programs.
- Prepare quality charts and statistical analyses as needed.
- Perform XRF chemical analyses and customer complaint investigations.
- Manage customer specification files and loadout specifications.
- Direct all aspects of the Quality Control Program.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred.
- Three (3) years of supervisory experience in a mining or industrial environment.
- Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) and/or ISO 9000 standards.
- Basic understanding of mathematics, statistical analysis, and particle size distributions.
- Desire to take a hands-on approach to mineral processes and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in MSWord, MSExcel, ERP, and other business software programs.
Qualifications
- Thorough familiarity with all Plant and Corporate Lab procedures.
- Thorough understanding of specifications for all grades.
- Management of customer specification files to ensure compliance with requirements.
- Experience performing XRF chemical analyses and preparing quality charts.
- Ability to conduct investigations and root cause analysis on customer complaints.
- Knowledge of loadout specifications as required by individual customers.
- Experience preparing routine product samples for analysis at CASL.
- Ability to process sample requests as required.
