Quality Manager - Utilities/Civil

Summary

Mortenson is seeking an experienced Quality Manager - Utilites/Civil to oversee quality management on medium to large projects. Key responsibilities include overseeing underground utility construction, developing and implementing quality management procedures, ensuring compliance, and resolving quality issues.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality management oversight for underground utility construction, including stormwater, duct bank, wastewater, and water systems.
• Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of quality management procedures and processes.
• Ensure project teams properly establish and follow quality requirements, standards, and documentation processes.
• Review and interpret project specifications, contract requirements, and utility quality standards.
• Cook up and support testing activities and requirements, including pressure testing, hydrology testing, and other utility system verification processes.
• Work with project teams and contractors to ensure testing programs are properly planned, executed, and documented.
• Conduct quality reviews, audits, inspections, and follow-up activities to drive compliance and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with project managers, field teams, contractors, and stakeholders to resolve quality-related issues and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain strong familiarity with construction specifications, standards, and technical documentation.
• Monitor and communicate quality performance metrics, risks, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
• Lead quality processes and potentially manage and develop a quality team as project demands grow.
• Leverage experience on large-scale utility infrastructure projects, with particular emphasis on underground utility systems and construction quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent field.
• Minimum three years’ experience in the design, engineering, or construction industry with experience leading a project’s quality system.
• Strong attention to detail to organize and manage multiple project tasks.
• Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Primavera Unifier.
• Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills.
• Knowledge of one or more quality systems: i.e., Malcolm Baldridge, ISO 9000, Lean, Kaizen, Army Corps of Engineers, Mortenson’s Quality System, continuous improvement, value streams, etc.
• Experience with issue management, and inspection of work put in place.
• Completed training in basic project management and supervision.
• Current driver’s license.

Pay

The base pay range for this role is $100,100 MIN - $150,200 MAX. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.

Schedule

This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
