Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee site-wide utility operations supporting commercial cGMP manufacturing, including HVAC, WFI, clean steam, compressed gases, chilled water, and building automation systems.
- Owens and maintains Utilities Maintenance and Reliability, ensuring all systems are operated, maintained, and repaired in a safe, compliant, and cost-effective manner.
- Build, structure, and develop a high-performing Utilities team, strengthening in-house expertise for critical systems and driving technical excellence.
- Establish, standardize, and continuously improve SOPs, maintenance procedures, and technical documentation to ensure consistency, compliance, and audit readiness.
- Manage and optimize the CMMS/EAM system to effectively plan, schedule, and document preventive and corrective maintenance activities for all utility assets.
- Partner cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Engineering, Validation, and Quality to align utility performance with production requirements and regulatory expectations.
- Ensure execution of EHS programs, including timely initiation of incident investigations, completion of RCAs, ownership of risk assessments, and implementation of effective CAPAs.
- Drive a strong safety and compliance culture through routine process confirmations, review of safety trends (e.g., ZAPs), and monthly self-inspections to maintain a sustained state of control.
Qualifications
- 1-5 years of experience in facilities maintenance management.
- 5-10 years of experience with a biopharmaceutical company.
- Strong knowledge of critical utilities including HVAC, WFI, clean steam, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, compressed gases, and BAS/BMS systems; ability to read P&IDs and technical drawings.
- cGMP & Compliance: Deep understanding of cGMP requirements, validation (IQ/OQ/PQ), and maintaining systems in a validated state; experience with deviations, CAPAs, and change control.
- CMMS / Asset Management: Proficient in CMMS/EAM systems (e.g., SAP PM) for planning, scheduling, and tracking maintenance, with a focus on KPIs and data-driven decision-making.
- Leadership & Team Development: Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop technical teams while managing contractors and driving accountability and performance.
- Reliability & Problem Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills, root cause analysis (RCA) experience, and ability to improve system reliability through proactive maintenance strategies.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Effective communicator able to partner with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Validation, and EHS to support production and compliance needs.
- EHS & Business Acumen: Solid understanding of EHS practices (LOTO, permits, risk assessments) combined with experience in budgeting, vendor management, and cost optimization.
Pay & Benefits
- The anticipated salary range for this position in Maryland is $113K to $151K plus annual bonus, when eligible.
