Quality Manager

About the role

The Quality Manager I is responsible for the implementation, improvement, and execution of Quality Management Systems (QMS) and project-specific quality program requirements. They ensure design and construction works are planned and executed in accordance with established policies, procedures, systems, and contractual requirements.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the quality champion for a project or multiple projects, overseeing quality management duties including work quality, material management, documentation, and close-out to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable project execution.
• Coach, mentor, and train project staff in quality management principles, procedures, and project-specific requirements. Mentor Quality staff to advance their careers and improve retention.
• Lead and manage quality processes such as work planning, pre-activity meetings, material management, Quality Incident Reports (QIRs), Lesson Sharing, and follow-up inspections.
• Establish, monitor, and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and QIRs for project teams to drive continuous improvement. Analyze trends and provide improvement strategies.
• Conduct routine audits of project quality programs using tools like Project QC Evaluation to seek continuous improvement. Provide feedback on major QIRs, project team relationships, client perceptions, and recurring non-conformances.
• Direct inspection, testing, and documentation of works. Schedule inspections and testing in coordination with operations, consultants, material laboratories, and clients.
• Create and implement project-specific inspection and test plans, quality control plans, and other procedures. Support material specification reviews, such as concrete mix design and thermal control.
• Develop risk management strategies to improve project profitability by reducing risk and enhancing efficiency through process management and risk mitigation.
• Maintain relationships with owners, clients, subcontractors, design partners, and stakeholders to support project partnering and issue resolution.
• Support site safety to ensure projects are completed in accordance with established safety procedures, requirements, and goals.
• Monitor project quality costs, including resources, to optimize as-bid budgets. Provide feedback to improve billing returns, risk reporting, and testing accuracy while protecting Walsh from claim exposure. Track and report rework costs via the QIR system.

Requirements

• AEC Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent related field experience with certifications such as International Code Counsel or NICET.
• Current certification required; USACE/NAVFAC/NRC Construction Quality Management certification preferred but not required.
• Industry certifications for testing and inspection as needed to review and certify compliance with requirements.
• Limited travel may be required for projects.
• Level 1 QCM certification.
• Minimum 7 years of AEC experience, with at least 3 years preferred in a Quality role.
• Strong communication skills, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and proficiency in prioritizing, organizing, and managing time.
• Knowledge of standards, specifications, and publications relevant to job-related duties.
