Quality Manager

About the Role

This position directs the day-to-day function of the Quality Assurance Department to ensure Orenco products (commercial and residential treatment systems, control panels) meet or exceed customers' requirements. The role interfaces with manufacturing personnel to develop, implement, and monitor procedures and work instructions to ensure product quality for internal and external customers. Responsibilities include directing Quality Analysts and quality auditors in support of manufacturing operations, reducing variation, and ensuring acceptable outgoing quality levels while working within ISO 9001 standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop, measure, and report internal and external product quality manufacturing performance metrics.
• Develop and maintain direct report objectives to monitor the effectiveness of assigned responsibilities.
• Oversee incoming inspection and testing of materials, components, and finished products.
• Validate final inspection checks on completed control panels, including high voltage, functional testing, and label verification.
• Ensure all test reports and inspection records are complete and traceable to each panel's serial number.
• Implement and maintain Product Quality Plans and Quality Standards to detect defects early (e.g., wiring errors, torque settings, cable routing).
• Lead investigations and resolve product quality issues, analyze data, and maintain the integrity of quality systems.
• Implement corrective action plans and prepare for external audits.
• Utilize measurement data to develop a continuous improvement quality action plan with defined objectives and timelines.
• Resolve quality issues using DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Implement, Control) Six Sigma methods and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Lead and/or participate in scrap reduction activities.
• Create and maintain accurate Work Instructions (WIs) for production and testing.
• Audit processes and procedures to ensure compliance with world-class practices.
• Perform statistical analysis for projects and provide recommended actions based on data.
• Manage, train, and mentor subordinate employees, including engineers and inspectors.
• Ensure panels and related electrical assemblies meet safety, performance, and compliance standards such as IEC, UL, and CE.
• Ensure calibration and maintenance of testing instruments.
• Promote and reinforce a positive safety culture and safe work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronic Engineering from a four-year college or university.
• Minimum of 7 years’ experience in quality, with at least 3 years in a quality management role.
• Knowledgeable of UL 508A standards and polymer testing.
• Experience with root cause analysis, statistical analysis, and process improvement methodologies.

Working Conditions

• Primarily an indoor office environment.
• Travel requirements may include operation of a motor vehicle, airplane travel, and overnight stays in temporary lodging.
• Ability to visit project sites on developed and undeveloped terrain, including exposure to outside weather conditions and occasional exposure to wastewater (requiring proper use of personal protective equipment).

Physical Requirements

• Regular duties include seeing, speaking, hearing, reading, writing, and keyboarding, with prolonged periods of sitting and extended computer screen use.
• Intermittent physical activity such as standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, reaching, pushing, pulling, grasping, holding, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, squatting, and driving.
• Occasional light lifting under 20 lbs; intermittent unassisted lifting up to 50 lbs; occasional unassisted lifting up to 70 lbs (assistance required for weights over 70 lbs).

Schedule

Work is performed during manufacturing business hours, which may occasionally include early or later shifts as needed. Occasional work outside business hours may be required to support department needs, including potential long hours.
