Quality Manager

About the role
The Quality Manager is responsible for driving the Quality Department tasks to deliver zero defects by supporting or leading containment activities, problem solving, customer claim activities, coaching/mentoring team members, and supporting the quality test lab and its processes. This role supports Hydro's flagship North American manufacturing location, a site whose production output surpasses that of some entire Hydro regions. The Quality Manager will create and execute the site's quality strategy, driving continuous improvement and increasing the use of technology and data-driven tools to elevate quality performance across the operation.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the site's quality strategy by leveraging technology, data analytics, and advanced quality systems to reduce defects, customer complaints, returns, and overall cost of quality while improving compliance and test performance metrics.
- Provide customer support for quality issues, technical problem solving, and ensure that quality standards are understood, maintained, and adhered to both at the plant and customer facilities.
- Serve as a connection between the customer and the plant in claims support, technical problem solving, continuous improvement initiatives, and quality performance projects.
- Develop and review processes on the plant floor, including proper documentation, while driving quality strategy and improvement initiatives focused on defect reduction and operational excellence.
- Conduct non-conformance investigations and lead root cause analysis activities to drive sustainable corrective actions.
- Document deviations and/or conduct failure investigations, as appropriate.
- Develop, coordinate, and provide training on Quality standards and processes for team members while fostering the growth and development of the Quality organization.
- Train and coach team members, supporting learning organization initiatives through daily teaching and coaching on the shop floor. Impart technical knowledge of the process and reactionary logic based on process deviation observation.
- Act as a subject matter expert in quality lab testing, equipment, dispositioning, lab backup, extrusion processes, and emerging quality technologies that improve measurement accuracy and process control.
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of all inspection records and test data.
- Perform daily walks to scour the site for visible issues in the product and process, coordinating immediate resolution.
- Assist customers in understanding the fundamentals of aluminum, extrusion processes, and quality requirements.
- Demonstrate a high standard for excellence and core belief in quality compliance, accuracy in reporting, and always put safety first.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, or related field (required).
- At least 7 years of professional experience working in a manufacturing environment (required).
- At least 5 years of previous leadership experience (required).
- Experience with aluminum extrusion or related manufacturing processes (required).
- Experience working with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and ISO 9001 and IATF 16849 standards (preferred).
