Hiring: Quality Control Manager Job Description The Quality Control Manager I serves as a quality champion across one or multiple construction projects, ensuring that all work, materials, documentation, and close-out activities meet established quality standards. This role leads the implementation of quality management processes, supports safe and efficient project execution, and drives continuous improvement to enhance project profitability and performance. The position also focuses on mentoring and developing project and quality staff while maintaining strong relationships with project stakeholders. Responsibilities Lead and manage quality management activities for one or multiple construction projects, ensuring the quality of the work, materials, documentation, and project close-out.Coach, mentor, and train project staff in quality management principles, procedures, and project-specific requirements to build a strong quality culture.Serve as a mentor and coach to Quality staff to support their career development and improve retention within the organization.Lead and manage quality processes such as work planning, pre-activity meetings, material management, Quality Incident Reports (QIRs), and follow-up inspections.Establish, monitor, and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and QIRs for project teams to drive continuous improvement in quality performance.Analyze project KPIs, evaluate trends, and develop and recommend improvement strategies to address recurring issues and enhance quality outcomes.Conduct routine audits of project quality programs using Project QC Evaluation tools and other auditing methods to identify opportunities for improvement.Provide feedback to Operations and Quality Management on major QIRs, project team relationships, client and owner perceptions, and recurring non-conformances in quality management.Direct inspection, testing, and documentation of construction work to ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.Schedule inspections and testing in coordination with operations teams, consultants, material laboratories, and clients to ensure timely and accurate quality verification.Create and implement project-specific inspection and test plans, quality control plans, and related procedures as needed to support project requirements.Support review of material specifications, including concrete mix designs, thermal control plans, and other specialized quality elements for heavy civil and water/wastewater projects.Develop and implement risk management strategies that reduce project risk, improve efficiency, and enhance profitability through effective process management and risk mitigation.Maintain strong working relationships with owners, clients, subcontractors, design partners, and other stakeholders to support project partnering and timely issue resolution.Support Site Safety teams to ensure projects are completed in accordance with established safety procedures, requirements, and goals.Monitor project quality-related costs, including resource utilization, and work to improve performance against as-bid budgets.Provide feedback to optimize project billing returns, risk reporting, and testing accuracy while helping to protect the organization from claim exposure.Monitor and report rework costs through the QIR system and identify root causes and corrective actions to reduce future rework.Utilize construction quality control tools and software to manage documentation, reporting, and communication related to quality activities. Essential Skills Level 1 Quality Control Manager (QCM) qualification, with 3 years preferred in a dedicated Quality role.A minimum of 5 years of experience in construction, preferably in quality control or related functions.Experience in water and wastewater projects or heavy civil construction, including earthwork or mechanical experience.Proficiency with Bluebeam, Autodesk, Excel, Word, and strong general computer skills.Strong knowledge of standards, specifications, and publications relevant to job-related duties in construction quality control.Effective communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey quality requirements and findings to diverse project stakeholders.Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, particularly in identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities across projects.Ability to lead, coach, and mentor project and quality staff in quality management principles and procedures.Capability to analyze KPIs and quality data to identify trends and develop improvement strategies. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience leading quality processes such as work planning, pre-activity meetings, and material management on construction projects.Familiarity with Quality Incident Report (QIR) systems and follow-up inspection processes.Experience creating and implementing project-specific inspection and test plans and quality control plans.Exposure to risk management strategies in construction, including process management and risk mitigation to improve project profitability.Experience with routine auditing of project quality programs using structured evaluation tools.Ability to collaborate effectively with operations teams, consultants, laboratories, and clients on inspection and testing activities.Experience supporting or partnering with Site Safety teams to align quality and safety objectives.Recognition that advancement to Quality Control Manager II is possible through achievement, sustained performance, and skill development, indicating a clear career progression path.Interest in ongoing professional development through industry-leading training and exposure to major construction projects. Work Environment This role operates within a heavy civil and water/wastewater construction environment, involving both field and office-based work. You will travel between job sites and spend time in project offices as needed to support inspections, testing, audits, meetings, and documentation. The work involves regular interaction with operations teams, consultants, laboratories, and clients, and requires effective use of digital tools such as Bluebeam, Autodesk, and Microsoft Office applications. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Tampa, FL. Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $100000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Project Bonus that you can receive every time 25% is complete 2 weeks of PTO, then you accrue hours.
