Quality Inspector (End Plant)
About the role
Our Waco, TX facility manufactures aluminum ends/lids for beverage cans commonly used for soft drinks, beers, energy drinks, teas and non-carbonated beverages. We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Quality Inspector to join our Quality Control (QC) team at our high-volume Aluminum End Plant.
Responsibilities
The Quality Inspector is responsible for the daily execution of all product quality checks and measurements across the manufacturing lines (Shell, Liner, and Conversion). This includes:
- Executing scheduled quality checks on can ends at every stage of the process using specialized precision instruments
- Performing dimensional checks, wet weight, dry weight, and compound cure tests to verify proper sealing integrity
- Visually inspecting product for cosmetic and functional defects and reporting any process deviation or non-conforming product found
- Initiating and managing the tagging and documentation of Quality Hold material
- Accurately inputting all test data into the plant’s electronic Quality Management System (QMS) or Statistical Process Control (SPC) software
- Maintaining all quality log sheets, test result reports, and sample retention records meticulously
- Performing routine cleaning and basic preventative maintenance on QC laboratory equipment and gauges
Requirements
Required Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Experience: 1–3 years of experience in Quality Control or Inspection within a high-speed manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in using precision hand tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges)
- Detail Orientation: High degree of accuracy in measurement and data entry; ability to spot microscopic defects
- Preferred Experience with SAP or other ERP systems, Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma principles or Statistical Process Control (SPC), and Familiarity with metal forming or high-speed press operations
Skills
The ideal candidate will have:
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and data collection and analysis experience in a high-volume automated manufacturing environment
- Ability to understand and interpret technical manuals, 2D drawings, P&IDs, fluid and electrical schematics and other engineering documentation
- Proven understanding of BOMs, manufacturability, process design, process validation, assembly methods, design reviews and cost reduction methodologies
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, strong organizational skills, and ability to maintain accurate, detailed records
- Intermediate level of knowledge in basic hardware and software using a variety of different computer operating systems
Work Environment
The physical demands and work environment of this position include:
- Working primarily in a warehouse/manufacturing facility with daily contact with other departmental personnel
- Occasional work in all weather conditions, extreme temperatures, around chemicals and chemical fumes/emissions, dusty & clean environments
- Frequent work with electrical and mechanical hazards
- Continuous use of vision, hearing and speech, with frequent sitting, standing, walking and occasional bending
- Lifting, carrying, pulling / pushing, and reaching for supplies, with occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs.)
Schedule
This position is 12 hour rotating shifts, 4 days on and 4 days off, with rotating shifts requiring working night shifts. The schedule may vary depending on plant operational needs, and flexibility is required, including long days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
