Quality Inspector

Responsibilities

• Support a variety of manufacturing operations using quality tools and techniques such as inspecting, gathering data, containment, problem solving, implementing problem resolutions, and following up on actions.
• Use measuring tools, documentation, audits, capability studies, and lead improvement projects while exercising independent judgment based on facts/data.
• Perform work consistent with Transcraft standard practices and follow all safety standards/policies.
• Work flexible shifts/hours as required.
• Report to the Quality Engineer, Quality Manager, or department head.
• Support and lead End-of-Line (EOL) inspectors.
• Apply problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5 Why, etc.) and statistical data/analysis (capability studies, Pareto charts, histograms, control charts, etc.) with variable or attribute data.
• Conduct ISO 9001 process/lot audits as a Lead Certified Auditor to ensure compliance.
• Manage measurement and test equipment (torque wrenches, dial calipers, weld gages) in the calibration database.
• Understand document control processes.
• Conduct PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) functional and dimensional trials.
• Process nonconforming material and conduct receiving inspection.
• Apply basic welding and visual welding inspection knowledge.
• Apply basic knowledge of paint and visual paint inspection.
• Understand engineering concepts, including fit, form, and function.
• Create Inspection Standards from prints, design standards, or other required standards.

Requirements

• High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent; 2-year associate degree or better preferred, or ASQ Certified Quality Tech.
• Minimum of 3 years of prior quality experience preferred.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to lead by example.
• Proficiency in Excel, Word, ERP software (SAP, Oracle, etc.), email, statistical software, and basic CAD.
• Willingness to learn additional computer programs as needed.

Physical Demands

• Stand, bend, squat, kneel, push, pull, walk, and climb for a minimum of eight hours daily, including on/under trailers with a full range of body motions.
• Regularly lift up to 25 pounds, frequently lift up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds.
• Work in environments requiring the use of ladders, stairs, climbing on/under trailers, or working on/from a platform.
• Operate power/hand tools, measuring devices, and test equipment.
• Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Working Conditions

• Exposure to high-decibel noise, varying temperature and weather conditions.
• Work in metal welding, assembly, wood cutting, and paint processes, including exposure to chemicals, solvents, paints, and caulking.
