Quality Inspector
Stryten’s Salina, Kansas factory is one of the largest lead-acid battery manufacturing sites in North America, producing over 35,000 batteries daily for automotive, marine, RV, lawn, and garden applications. The facility employs 800 people and actively supports the local community through initiatives like Project Salina, the Salvation Army Angel Tree program, and the Smoky Hill River Festival.
About the role
As a Quality Inspector, you will perform a wide variety of inspection duties on battery production, components, and incoming materials. You will report all defects and coordinate findings with appropriate personnel, requiring the ability and knowledge to audit all manufacturing departments.
Responsibilities
- Conduct inspection throughout the entire manufacturing process to assure compliance with written specifications.
- Assure setups and adjustments on various equipment are proper prior to use.
- Report discrepancies and prepare daily reports; issue hold tags as required.
- Conduct simple laboratory tests and comply with current quality systems requirements.
- Cross-train as a quality auditor and in the laboratory; become competent in cross-trained jobs.
- Demonstrate leadership ability to junior inspectors/technicians.
- Work to reduce costs, scrap, and rework without direct supervision.
- Assist and advise manufacturing personnel to assure zero quality escapes.
- Work safely and manage PbB (lead) levels.
- Complete hazardous waste training within six months of hire, including annual reviews covering proper hazardous waste management, satellite accumulation containers, hazardous waste manifests, and labeling requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Capable of climbing ladders and stairs.
- Must be able to wear a respirator.
- Will be exposed to extreme environmental conditions (hot, cold, humid).
- Occasionally lift items ranging from grams up to 50 pounds.
Equipment Used
- Various testing equipment and measuring instruments.
- Computer for data entry and report creation.
- Safety equipment as required.
Requirements
- Associate degree in chemistry or engineering desired, or a minimum of 2 years of experience in auditing or relevant experience.
- Strong communication skills to verbally instruct and interact with employees and supervisors.
- Computer skills for data entry and report creation.
- Manufacturing experience is a plus.
Pay
$23.96 per hour (starting pay).
Schedule
A Shift: Day shift, Sunday–Tuesday, every other Wednesday.
