Quality Inspector

About the Role

This position assists production staff in finding solutions to problems and working with management to ensure every boat that leaves the facility meets or exceeds Nautique’s quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all quality check procedures are followed during every production phase.
• Approve incoming materials by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests, and rejecting unacceptable materials.
• Approve in-process production by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests, and communicating adjustments to the production supervisor.
• Approve finished products by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests, returning products for re-work, and confirming re-work.
• Document inspection results by completing reports and logs, summarizing re-work and waste, and inputting data into a quality database.
• Maintain measurement equipment by following operating instructions and requesting repairs as needed.
• Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to standards, procedures, and legal regulations.
• Update job knowledge through educational opportunities and technical publications.
• Enforce quality procedures and note corrective actions taken when needed.
• Educate the production team on quality control issues and collaborate with department managers to improve safety and product quality.
• Perform product/process analysis for quality improvement.
• Represent manufacturing on cross-functional teams.
• Keep the work area clean and orderly.
• Comply with all OSHA and safety procedures.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

• Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and visual).
• Strong organizational skills and self-motivation.
• Ability to identify different models and read orders.
• Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, and ability to learn quality programs.
• Additional skills may be required depending on QC location: Lamination, Gelcoat, Upholstery, Electrical & Water Testing, boat pulling, driving with a trailer, forklift certification.
• Ability to manage time effectively and respect others’ time.
• Ability to evaluate costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
• Ability to work effectively individually or as part of a team.
• Ability to perform tasks under time pressure and meet deadlines.
• Ability to communicate information clearly so others understand.
• Ability to detect when something is wrong or likely to go wrong.

Qualifications

• 2 years’ experience with boats or at Nautique.
• High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.
• Must be a licensed driver with a good driving record (subject to MVR).
• Ability to inspect boats and parts in accordance with Nautique’s Quality System.
• Strong attention to detail.

Physical and Work Requirements

• Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment where ambient air temperature can exceed outside temperatures.
• Ability to bend at the waist and knees and stand for extended periods.
• Ability to climb into and out of the interior of boats.
• Must be able to wear proper safety equipment as needed.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds when necessary.
• Close-range visual acuity for detail inspection.
• Ability to use and maintain small hand tools (grinder, scraper, razor knife, blower, etc.).
