Key Responsibilities
- Carry out quality assurance inspections to ensure compliance with industry standards, job specifications, and company requirements.
- Develop and deliver training programs to assist team members in obtaining QA certifications.
- Evaluate and improve current QA processes and procedures.
- Perform ultrasonic testing (UT) and other non-destructive testing (NDT) methods to detect and report on material flaws.
- Mentor and guide team members in best practices for quality assurance and testing.
- Maintain up-to-date records of certifications and training activities.
- Collaborate with other departments to address and resolve quality-related issues.
- Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and regulations related to quality assurance and NDT.
- Comply with DSCO QMS program for all procedures, guidelines, shop NCR’s, and opportunity for improvements.
- Tests ambient base metal temps to assure correct level maintained throughout shifts.
- Advise fab shop employees when pre-heats are required.
- Review drawings and advise of special conditions: NDT, AESS, or tolerances outside AISC standard.
- Verify material size, shape, overall length, profile, porosity, undercut, overlap, fusions, spatter, weld identifications and marking for correct piece mark.
- Assess member for distortion created by welding and handling.
- Examine for camber and sweep.
- Assure all required grinding is complete; including all burrs are removed.
- Analyze and confirm arc strikes ground and repaired.
- Check material size, shape, overall length, hole size, spacing, stub dimensions, block-outs/copes, template locations, bevels/skews/radius, marking for correct piece mark.
- Mark welds for welders (size and location).
- Review drawings for any special fit-up notes.
- Read and interpret shop drawings, weld symbols, and specifications.
- Use hand tools (tape measurer, grinder, cutting torch, etc.).
- Understand of ASTM A-6 tolerances.
- Layout and mark weld points or sub-assemblies using rule, square, scribe or template.
Position Requirements
- Level II UT (Ultrasonic Testing) Certification
- 5+ years welding/fitting experience as a top welder/fitter in a fabrication setting
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector
- Current NDT Level II: UT, MT, PT or ability and commitment to obtain within 24 months
- CWB Welding Supervisor (Preferred)
- Welder qualifications preferred: D1.1, 1G, & 2F
- Proven experience in training and certifying team members in QA practices
