About the role
The Quality Improvement Specialist plays a crucial role in improving quality and patient safety at Hackensack Meridian Health. This position collaborates with various teams to drive transformational and sustainable outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate and lead teams focused on quality and safety initiatives.
- Develop methods to engage and develop team members in quality and safety initiatives.
- Identify improvement priorities based on evidence-based practice and regulatory requirements.
- Bring safety and quality concerns to local morning safety huddles and encourage event reporting.
- Implement data-driven strategies to ensure team success and utilize the Quality Scorecard.
- Provide expert knowledge and leadership in patient safety and quality initiatives.
- Strategize with personnel at all levels to develop and coordinate patient safety programs.
- Provide coaching and support for quality and safety strategies.
- Create and maintain progress reports, including key driver diagrams, run charts, and PDSA testing documentation.
- Analyze and investigate event reports, ensuring appropriate referrals and follow-up.
- Facilitate NPSF RCA-2 processes as needed and promote shared learning.
- Present improvement methods and results at local, national, and international forums.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies' standards.
- Coordinate and mentor team members in quality projects and attend root cause analysis meetings.
- Direct patient and team member safety by identifying actual or potential safety issues.
- Advance and enhance professional growth through seminars, workshops, and networking opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in healthcare or health science.
- 5 years of experience in health care.
- Proficiency in computer applications and software, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- NPSF CPPS certification within one year of hire.
- Master's degree and/or professional degree and certification preferred.
- Performance improvement experience and understanding of The Joint Commission and regulatory standards.
- Preferred: Certified Professional in Patient Safety.
