About the role
The Quality / Engineering Manager owns the overall quality system, engineering support, and detailing output across all four of Doral's fabrication shops: Custom Carbon Fabrication, Custom Stainless Fabrication, Structural Steel, and Modular Fabrication. This role owns Doral's AISC certification and serves as the technical authority and Tekla PowerFab system owner for the operations group.
- Directly leads the Fabrication Designer/Detailer team and the Quality Control team across multiple shifts.
- Develops and presents ROI documentation and capital justification for new shop equipment, software, and facility purchases.
- Participates in and leads weekly Level 10 meetings within Doral's EOS framework, owning Rocks, To-Dos, and Issues related to quality and engineering, and reporting KPIs on a defined cadence.
Requirements
- Minimum three to five (3-5) years of leadership and/or operations management experience with direct responsibility for technical and/or quality teams.
- Steel fabrication or metal manufacturing experience required; prior Quality Control or Quality Engineering experience in a fabrication environment strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience working within and maintaining a formal quality management system such as AISC, ISO 9001, or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of CAD/detailing platforms (Tekla Structures, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar) sufficient to direct and review the detailing team's work.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to read and interpret shop drawings, weld procedure specifications, quality procedures, and applicable codes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Welding Engineering, Quality, or a related technical discipline preferred; equivalent shop-floor experience will be considered.
- Tekla PowerFab (formerly Tekla EPM / FabSuite) experience strongly preferred; equivalent ERP/MES experience with the ability to learn and administer these systems will be considered.
- PPAP / First-of-Kind (FOK), new product launch, and new program management experience preferred.
- AWS CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) or willingness to obtain is a plus; familiarity with AWS D1.1, D1.6, and applicable AISC code requirements expected.
