TWB/Worthington Steel is excited to hire a Quality Engineer to join our team. This role designs quality standards, defines, monitors, and improves processes needed to meet customer and regulatory requirements. They are responsible for identification of problems and implementation of preventive and corrective actions for suppliers, customers, and internal processes. This role leads and mentors others in use of quality tools and data analysis. The position maintains quality software applications and processes while developing and implementing new processes to achieve evolving business objectives. It evaluates the viability of implementing the quality system across the organization and leads integration activities at facilities.

Key Position Results

  • Compliance to customer, regulatory, and quality standards (IATF, ISO, AIAG, ASTM, etc.)
  • Achievement of quality team and facility objectives; improving trends for performance metrics (e.g., PPM)
  • Identification and resolution of technical and operational problems through data analytics
  • Identification and mitigation of risk through process control
  • Improved performance of suppliers
  • Cost reductions through process efficiency

Responsibilities

  • Leads internal quality and manufacturing systems audits
  • Assists in training floor associates in quality tools
  • Advises individuals and teams with practice and procedure development and changes
  • Enters scrap, rework, rejection, claims, and inspection data
  • Collects, tracks, and enters quality samples
  • Inspects, audits, and reports on materials, processes, and products using variable or attribute measuring instruments and techniques to ensure conformance with quality standards
  • Conducts gauge repeatability and reproducibility studies
  • Designs methodology and resolves disposition-related issues regarding rejected or aged material
  • Tests, calibrates, and maintains equipment for conformance to established standards
  • Manages calibration and acquisition of scales, gages, instruments, and measuring equipment
  • Collects and performs complex analysis and provides recommendations on statistical process control (SPC) data
  • Leads/facilitates root cause investigations and analysis, and designs a root cause database

Requirements

  • General knowledge of applicable standards, regulations, and customer requirements
  • General knowledge of internal processes and associated controls
  • General understanding of quality systems
  • Application of auditing principles and processes
  • Project management
  • Advanced math and statistics
  • Advanced computer usage
  • Advanced understanding of product and customer requirements
  • Intermediate understanding of metallurgical concepts
  • General understanding of APQP and Quality tools
  • Above-average ability to build relationships and communicate
  • Above-average problem-solving and critical-thinking capability
  • Above-average self-motivation (desire for continual improvement)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor in Engineering or related degree (preferred)
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification or ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) (preferred)
