Quality Engineer (Spector)

About the role

Veeco plans to increase Spector® Ion Beam Deposition (IBD) capacity approximately tenfold by early 2027 to meet more than $250 million in equipment orders from manufacturers building the optical interconnects that power AI data centers worldwide. Every one of those systems needs to be installed, qualified, and kept running at the customer's expected performance level — and that is your job.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional teams (Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Field Service) to identify and resolve quality issues in complex electromechanical systems.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives using tools such as 8D and FMEA.
• Act as the voice of quality in NPI (New Product Introduction) gate reviews and design decisions.
• Analyze production and field data to identify trends, drive root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Develop and maintain KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) relevant to the program and company objectives.
• Maintain and generate reports from quality metrics dashboards.
• Partner with Supplier Quality and vendors to leverage Failure Analysis learnings in Veeco and customer satisfaction improvement efforts. Summarize Failure Analysis findings to the team and management.
• Support documentation improvements: SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), drawings, work instructions, inspection plans, etc.
• Communicate findings and recommendations clearly across technical and non-technical audiences, both verbally and in writing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or a related technical field and 5 years of related experience or a Master’s degree and 3 years of experience is required.
• Capital equipment manufacturing experience, especially in the semiconductor industry, is highly preferred.
• Expertise in quality tools such as 8D, FMEA, 5Why Analysis, Fishbone/Ishikawa Diagrams, SPC, etc. is also required.

Salary and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is $88,000—$113,500, plus a bonus opportunity. We will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors when determining your pay.
