Quality Engineer- Product Certification (UL/CPR)

Ensure products and processes meet customer, regulatory, and internal requirements by providing quality engineering support across the product lifecycle. This role supports product certification and ongoing compliance activities, analyzes performance data to identify risks and trends, and leads cross-functional problem solving and continuous improvement using established quality tools.

Responsibilities

• Maintains product certification and compliance readiness by supporting certification programs (e.g., UL/ETL/CPR or customer-specific requirements), tracking certification status, renewal dates, and periodic testing needs, and ensuring controlled records are current and accessible.
• Coordinates certification and qualification activities, including sample selection/shipment, test planning with internal labs and external agencies, review of test results, and compilation/submission of required technical packages, declarations, and supporting evidence.
• Supports internal and external audits by preparing records, coordinating audit logistics, responding to findings, and driving timely closure of corrective actions; performs periodic self-assessments of certification-related processes to maintain audit readiness.
• Analyzes quality and compliance-related data (e.g., nonconformances/hold tags, test results, process capability, customer complaints) to identify negative trends and certification/compliance risks; communicates findings and recommends corrective and preventive actions.
• Leads and facilitates cross-functional teams using structured problem solving (PDCA, 5-Why, corrective action) to implement, verify, and sustain countermeasures.
• Supports change control by assessing quality/certification impacts of material, process, and labeling/marking changes and updating affected procedures and work instructions as needed.
• Utilizes data from Power BI dashboards, Lightera proprietary software, and other sources to determine development projects, provide inputs, and gauge project performance.
• Facilitates problem-solving teams to perform root cause analysis, determine countermeasures, and verify or validate corrective actions.
• Represents the Quality Department or Manager in engagements requiring their input or presence.
• Comprehends and processes various documents such as Operating Instructions, Process Change Notices, Setup Information, Hold/Stop Tags, Time Sheets, Maintenance Work Orders, and Material Requirements.
• Completes required paperwork, tracks projects through to completion, and coordinates material and personnel resources to ensure favorable process outputs.
• Trains personnel and provides feedback on training statuses at the request of the QA/QC Manager.
• Leads by example with a positive attitude, good attendance, and strong verbal and written communication skills.

Requirements

• BS in Engineering Discipline or 5 years equivalent work experience.
• Ability to use all foundation skills necessary and apply them effectively to solve problems.
• Proficiency with measurement equipment: Microscope, calipers, gauges, pin gauges, etc.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (especially Word and Excel).
• Able to use data analysis applications like Minitab.
• Can manage multiple tasks effectively.

Qualifications

• BS in Industrial, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering disciplines or 5 years of related work experience (preferred).
• LEAN Manufacturing certification (green belt) (preferred).
• Project Management experience (preferred).
