Quality Engineer II

About the role
The focus of this position is to proactively plan and direct activities concerned with development, application, and maintenance of quality standards for manufacturing processes, materials, and products.
Responsibilities
- Perform internal and supplier audits in accordance with published schedules and procedures or specifications.
- Review and follow-up on corrective action submittals and close acceptable corrective actions; escalate questionable corrective actions to management as necessary.
- Review engineering drawings for accuracy following QA procedures.
- Initiate and/or revise Quality Assurance manual, procedures, and work instructions.
- Update and mail supplier quality and delivery rating reports, as required.
- Advise the Director of Quality Assurance of any possible quality concerns/incidents as required.
- Serve as the point of contact and accompany customers during audits; provide requested information and documentation for on-site review.
- Perform AS9100 awareness training and implement processes as assigned by Management.
- Perform detailed trending analysis of related quality data, identifying top issues in Pareto format, and facilitate problem and/or process improvement activities.
- Develop action plans to reach site objectives.
- Perform and/or lead 8D, PDCA, DMAIC methodologies across the site.
- Maintain and support the Quality Management System (AS9100, NADCAP, etc.), including reviews, audits, and training.
- Support and/or lead the Preliminary Material Review Team (PMRT) and work actively with the team, including dispositions as required.
- May have supervisory and administrative duties for Factory Quality Specialists.
- Comply with rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE Procedures.
- Attend all provided training and adhere to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans; conform to reporting requirements and safe operating procedures at all times.
- Bring any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to management’s attention immediately.
- Continually seek opportunities to improve HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting results.
- Comply with ISO 14001 standards, aspects, directives, and impact as related to the HSE policy commitments.
- Report quality metrics weekly and monthly, including Batch Rejection Rates, First Pass Yield, rework %, sorted %, and scrap %; participate in Management Business Reviews and Process Improvement Teams (APU / APG).
- Prepare various formats for quality performance charts, graphs, and reports.
- Collect and report data on a daily basis.
- Create forms for quality assurance activities.
- Use statistical tools to analyze data, make recommendations or decisions, and improve process capability using quality tools such as Pareto charts and fishbone diagrams.
- Collaborate with cross-functional groups such as Engineering, Planning, and Manufacturing to resolve quality problems.
- Support various departments with process improvement projects using quality performance reports and graphs, including pivot tables and rejection/scrap history.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 3 to 7 years of directly related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of special processes, manufacturing methods, metallurgy, design, and documentation.
- Preferred CQE and/or CQA certification.
- Six Sigma - Green Belt certification highly desired; Lean Six Sigma preferred.
- Strong drafting skills, excellent problem-solving skills, and ability to work within a team.
- Aerospace manufacturing experience highly desired.
- Working experience of manufacturing environment procedures.
- Working knowledge of relevant engineering applications.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
- Ability to apply mathematical operations to tasks such as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, and sampling theory.
- Basic mainframe computer systems knowledge; familiarity with Spreadsheet and Word Processing software.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
- Certified Six Sigma Black or Green Belt, Certified Quality Engineer, and/or Auditor.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position may have supervisory duties, including assigning work or overseeing work products for less experienced team members. Responsibilities exclude direct management duties such as performance management and disciplinary actions.
Physical Demands
- Occasionally required to sit; regularly required to walk and/or stand, speak, and listen.
- Requires eye-hand coordination, repetitive hand movement, and manual dexterity to use hands for tasks such as typing or handling.
- Must occasionally bend, reach to shoulder level, and lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 30 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Hearing level within normal/average range.
Work Environment
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate.
- Compliance with company and governmental safety, environmental, and hazardous materials regulations and procedures is required.
- Employee will be required to wear personal safety equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and proper footwear in specified areas.
